Sports Day is always a day that stands out in the school year for being a day of fabulous participation and House Spirit. Sports Day 2022 did not disappoint!

The day started with the promise of plenty of sun and temperature predicted to reach 27 degrees. The sun shone for much of the morning for the middle-distance races and the field events. Then the clouds took over and we experienced rain at the start of the 100m in the afternoon – unheard of for Sports Day at St Edward’s. Thankfully, the rain was short lived, and the rest of the track events took place in dry conditions.

Fantastic performances were seen throughout out the day, as well as plenty of support and encouragement. Eight school records were broken on the day: four on the track and four in field. The Year 9 Girls’ High Jump record had been set in 2001 by Ashleigh Ball, who went on to win an Olympic bronze medal in 2012. Ashleigh’s record of 1.40m had stood for 21 years but was finally broken by Hattie S (9H) jumping 1.49m! Quite the achievement to dine out on for Hattie!

It was a delight to watch every pupil compete for their House and try their very best, as well as cheering on their friends and House mates.

The staff were ably assisted by our Sixth Form students who were not only busy officiating but as competing throughout the day.A wonderful day was had by all!
