At the beginning of November, 14 pupils from the Prep School and 17 students from the Senior School travelled to Walsall Gala Baths in order to compete in the annual ISA Midlands Swimming Gala. Twenty schools were involved from across the Midlands and as always, this was a very competitive gala. A number of our pupils won their individual heats, scoring crucial points for the overall standings. As a result of these excellent performances, St Edward’s were placed in an amazing 1st place in both the girls and boys overall team event, a fantastic achievement! Eight of our talented young swimmers from the Prep School and 4 from the Senior then went on to represent St Edward’s at the nationals.

On Sunday, both the Senior and Prep School attended the ISA National Swimming finals with outstanding success! With awards being presented by Peter Bakare, who competed in the 2012 Olympic Games in the men’s tournament for Volleyball, students had a fantastic time during the event, achieving excellent results for themselves and the school community.

I am extremely proud of our eight Prep School swimmers who represented the Midlands on Sunday in the National ISA Swimming Gala. This was a fantastic opportunity for the pupils to swim in the Olympic Pool, London and they all rose to the occasion. Miss Alex McGowan, Head of Sports Faculty (Senior School), said of the day

Liam, Henry, David and Oliver all had a great day and we came away with a fantastic medal haul and two National Champions!! It was also particularly nice for Mr Burke to be present to award some of our pupils their medals in his role with ISA. The Midlands region finished 2nd overall, which just shows the depth of talent in our region. Congratulations to the whole team!

A huge well done to everyone involved.

We want to wish congratulations to every one of our students who took part in the events on Sunday. It was hugely impressive to see so much determination, resilience and perseverance, all values which are deeply important to our school communities.
