In Upper School (Year 10 & 11) students face greater challenges and responsibilities, not only academically but also on a social level. At St Edward’s we do all that we can to ensure that we provide the very best opportunities for personal growth and success.
Upper School Curriculum
With a continued focus on the philosophy and framework of High Performance Learning (HPL), students continue to build the cognitive competencies that lead a young person to thrive in school and in later life.
Our Subjects
All Upper School students study a core curriculum of English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, either Double or Triple Science with the choice of studying Religious Studies as an additional core subject. Students may then choose a further five subjects, one of which must be a Science (Biology, Chemistry or Physics). We also recommend that students include a language in their option choices. Current available optional subjects are as follows:
- Art & Design
- Biology
- Business
- Chemistry
- Classical Civilisation
- Computer Science
- DT
- Drama
- Food Preparation and Nutrition
- French
- Geography
- History
- Latin
- Music
- Physical Education
- Physics
- Spanish
In addition, all students follow a PSHE course which includes Careers and Health Education together with Physical Education.
Added Value
We consistently achieve positive Value Added at GCSE and A Level. Value added is a fair measure of the progress that students have made and takes account of where each student started from and the progress they made relative to other, similar students. This is attributed to the established culture of a good work ethic which exists within the School and the commitment and expertise of the teaching staff.
