Choosing a school for GCSE years is one of the most important decisions a family makes. At St Edward’s, we combine high expectations with personalised support, ensuring every student is known, guided, and encouraged to achieve their very best.

In Upper School (Years 10–11), students step into a crucial stage of their education, embracing new academic challenges alongside growing independence and responsibility. At St Edward’s, we ensure that every pupil is fully supported and inspired during these important years, providing outstanding teaching, personalised guidance, and a nurturing environment in which they can truly excel.

For families joining us at GCSE stage, this means not only strong results, but confident, resilient young people ready to flourish in Sixth Form and beyond.

Upper School Curriculum

Students continue to build the cognitive competencies that lead a young person to thrive in school and in later life.

Our Subjects

All Upper School students study a core curriculum of English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, either Double or Triple Science with the choice of studying Religious Studies as an additional core subject. Students may then choose a further five subjects, one of which must be a Science (Biology, Chemistry or Physics). We also recommend that students include a language in their option choices. Current available optional subjects are as follows:

  • Art & Design
  • Biology
  • Business
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • DT
  • Drama
  • Food Preparation and Nutrition
  • French
  • Geography
  • History
  • Music
  • Physical Education
  • Physics
  • Spanish

Added Value

Our pupils consistently make exceptional progress at GCSE and A Level, achieving results that exceed expectations.

With the majority of students achieving results that are substantially above predictions, this success is built on a culture of high expectations, individual attention, and expert teaching.
