On Tuesday, St Edward’s Alumni, Tom Fielding (Upper Sixth Leaver, 2019), delivered an in-depth and insightful talk over Teams to our Technical Crew, in advance of our production of “Seussical the Musical” in February. Tom’s talk was full of advice about how to work effectively as part of a team, the best ways of employing atmospheric lighting and what the crew can do to utilise the various spaces available to them in school.

The Seussical Tech Team had a thoroughly enjoyable time listening to Tom talk about his experiences, which included insights from knowledge gained from his studies at RADA, as well as his own expertise from starting out in stage management when he was at St Edward’s. From his time working on the production of “Comedy of Errors” whilst at School, to building his career as a Scenic Art Assistant in the “Importance of Being Earnest” by Neil Bartlett, to his most recent work as Stage Manager for “Kursk” by Phillip Sheppard while studying at RADA. Tom certainly has impressive experience in this area and was excellent at speaking about the various skills required.

The session was a wonderful opportunity for our Tech Crew, who certainly benefitted from gaining first-hand insight into the many roles that come from being backstage. It was also a great way to highlight our expansive school community!
