Senior School Admissions Process
The admissions procedure will typically include the following steps:
- Visit
- Registration
- Taster Days
- Offer of place (subject to successful completion of an Entrance Examination)
- Acceptance
Visit
We hold a number of Open Mornings throughout the year. Alternatively, you are more than welcome to contact our Admissions Manager for an appointment and the opportunity to meet with
the Principal.
Registration
Registration may be made at any time to enter at any point in the academic year. Parents are requested to complete a Registration Form and return it to the Admissions Manager, together with a non-refundable fee of £75.
Taster Days
Following your visit and completion of a Registration Form, a ‘Taster Day’ would be arranged for your child to spend time at the School.
Entrance Assessments
All candidates will have an informal interview with the Principal. A reference will also be requested from their current School.
Entry into Year 7
Entrance Assessments at 11 years of age (Year 7) takes the form of an English Paper, a Mathematics Paper and a Non-Verbal Reasoning paper, each of which are 45 minutes in length. Entrance Examinations are held in the Autumn Term prior to entry, although it is possible to take Entrance Examinations at other times in the year.
Entry into Year 8, Year 9 or Year 10
Those entering Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 sit an online Entrance Examination.
Entry into Sixth Form
Entry into the Sixth Form is dependent upon GCSE performance. Candidates must achieve a minimum of five GCSEs at Level 5-9 (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics. They should also have achieved at least a Level 6 in subjects chosen for A Level. For Sciences and Maths a Level 7 or higher is recommended.
Offer of Place
Subject to successful completion of an Entrance Examination, along with a satisfactory reference from your child’s current or most recent school and copies of any specialist assessments, a place will be offered. Please note that in the event of oversubscription for a Year Group, your child will be placed on a waiting list and the Admissions Department will keep you updated on any progress or availability.
Acceptance
On receipt of an offer of a place at the School, parents are required to complete and return an Acceptance Form, along with an acceptance deposit of £500. The deposit is refunded when the student leaves St Edward’s and all financial matters have been settled.
