At St Edward’s there are a range of scholarships available for pupils entering the School in Years 7, 10 and 12. We also offer a means-tested Academic Bursary-Scholarship (of up to 100%) for exceptionally able Year 7 entrants.
Pupils who gain scholarships have access to our Scholarship Programme designed to develop them further. We have the highest expectations of them; they will have opportunities to be challenged and inspire others through their contribution to the life of the School.

Year 7 Academic Bursary-Scholarships
Academic Bursary-Scholarships are worth up to 100% of the School Fees and are aimed at families who would not normally be able to afford independent education. They are means-tested. Parents who are already paying school fees are therefore very unlikely to qualify for these. Parents applying for Academic Bursary-Scholarships are asked to complete a form detailing their financial circumstances, supported by appropriate documentation. Copies of this form are available from the Registrar. Academic Bursary-Scholarships are only offered at Year 7 entry.
In accordance with School’s Trust Deed, these Academic Bursary-Scholarships are open to children of all denominations but with preference given to Catholics. For Catholics, evidence of the applicant’s religion will be required in the form of a written statement from your Parish Priest.
Academic potential is assessed via our Entrance Examination, which is taken in the November before the year of entry to the School into Year 7. We use an on-line examination, developed by the CEM Centre at Durham University, which tests a child’s potential rather than the standard to which he or she has been taught. The examination cannot be ‘prepped’ for, so no special tuition is required for it.
