GCSE Results 2021

In 2021 our GCSE Results were as follows:

  • 9-8 or equivalent (A*) 30%
  • 9-7 or equivalent (A*-A) 52%
  • 9-6 or equivalent (A*-B) 70%

Following on from our A Level success we were delighted to announce an equally impressive set of GCSE results for St Edward’s School in August 2021.

Principal, Mr Matthew Burke said, “I am delighted for our Year 11 students, who thoroughly deserve their success at the end of what has been a hugely challenging two years of study. Just as they did with A Levels, our exceptional teachers implemented a rigorous and robust evidential process of Teacher Assessed Grades, and the final results are testament to what can happen when hard work, focus, good teaching, and a supportive environment all come together. Confidence, resilience and determination have also played a fundamental role in our students’ success.

Inevitably, on a national level there is an ongoing debate over ‘grade inflation’, however, it is important that we consider the circumstances in which our students have been learning – with lockdowns, multiple periods of remote learning and continually changing goalposts.”

We were especially pleased that in 17 subjects over 50% of results were at Grades 9-7 and that 30% of students achieved eight or more GCSEs at Grade 7 or above (A*-A).

Mr Burke continued, “I am incredibly proud of all our Year 11 students and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate with them when they came in to School to collect their results. I very much look forward to watching them progress, as they continue their educational journey with us in Sixth Form. I have no doubt that there will be further successes to look forward to in the years to come.”
