Year 6 is one of the busiest yet rewarding years at St Edward’s Prep School. Focus during this year is very much linked to responsibility, independent learning and preparing for future studies. Children are given ownership of a variety of responsibilities such as; Head Boy or Head Girl, House Captains, Sport Captains, Ambassadors, Charity Ambassadors, Library Ambassadors and Pupil Chaplains which all have differing and significant roles of responsibility throughout the year.

Some of our pupils also have the opportunity to learn Latin in Year 6.

It is also a time when they are preparing and completing exams to find out which senior school they will go to. For the majority, they carry on to St Edward’s Senior School. Others choose local schools or achieve places at local Grammar Schools. Many of our children also gain academic, sport, music or drama scholarships for entry to Senior School.

  • Our Year 6 children continue to take part in a wide variety of matches and sporting fixtures throughout the year and represent the School in many matches, galas and tournaments culminating in a friendly staff and pupils rounders’ tournament in the Summer Term which is always good fun and very competitive!
  • Year 6 trips include the Literature Festival, Science Festival, Varsity match at Twickenham and a Geography field study.
  • Our amazing Year 6 Production has to be one of the highlights of the year and of their time at St Edward’s which involves all members of the year group supported by the Year 5 choir. This is a time where we witness the dramatic and musical talent of our children and are also amazed and extremely proud by their stage presence and confidence. It’s a must to watch!
  • The highlight of the Summer Term is a week’s trip to Burgundy in France where the children are immersed into French culture and language. Every day they complete French lessons as well as taking part in archery, kayaking, circus skills (in a French circus tent), cookery, a walk, a trip to Vezaley, sculpture and mosaic making. One not to miss and an experience of a lifetime!
