This week, over 20 students from Years 7-12 were selected to take part in a workshop with mask theatre company Vamos Theatre. Creative Producer, Honor Hoskins led a workshop to introduce the basic principles of performing in a mask. Pupils could not talk when wearing a mask, and their vision was severely restricted, so they had to rely on the ‘tricks’ Honor taught in order to create several spontaneous scenes.
You would think that two hours working without speech would have made for a very peaceful morning, but laughter rang out almost constantly! Students had time to work in pairs on their own short performance – with some hilarious, and some moving results.
This was our first in-person workshop since COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, and it was such a joy to see students working together, with an industry professional.
