In their recent Music lessons, Year 6 have been looking at ways in which they can use their bodies to create percussive compositions. The class watched video examples of music created using only body percussion and were introduced to the various patterns and movements that could be used. The group practised several of these methods and tried to pass rhythmic sounds and movements between each other in a cannon.

Once the pupils were familiar with the way in which different elements could be assembled, they split into groups and were asked to experiment with as many sounds as they could. Examples included stamping, clapping, patting their chest and vocal sounds. The groups were encouraged to incorporate movements with each sound which would complement the piece and aid timing.

Once they had finished their compositions, each group performed them enthusiastically to their classmates.
