To continue their study of electricity, Year 6 have been investigating whether the length of wire in a circuit affects the brightness of a bulb.

The pupils headed to the Science Lab and set to work building a simple circuit, using a short length of wire, to light up a bulb. They predicted at the start of the experiment that this first circuit would make the bulb shine brightest.

They assessed the brightness by placing sheets of tracing paper in front of the bulb until they could no longer see the light.

The pupils then added another section of wire to make the circuit longer, and repeated the process, recording their result in a table and looking for a pattern in their findings.

At the end of the session they found that their initial prediction was in fact correct, and that the bulb was brightest in the circuit with the shortest length of wire!
