Pupils in Year 5 have been learning about the life-cycle of flowering plants this term. They have studied diagrams of the different parts of a flower and learnt about the role of each in the reproduction of the plant.

On Friday, they were given the chance to get hands-on during a flower dissection practical. Each pupil was given a freshly cut bloom, courtesy of Mrs Bailey’s garden, and asked to identify and draw the different reproductive structures.

A task requiring a delicate hand, the children were careful to work methodically and sketch each required structure as they found it.

Activities such as these are a fantastic way to bring a subject to life and cement the theory in the memories of our pupils.
