On Monday morning, Year 6 set off to Wales for their ‘French’ residential trip! Despite the enforced change of country, the scenery was just as beautiful, even if the weather was not quite as warm for the whole of the trip!

When they arrived at the activity centre, Year 6 got stuck into activities straight away, thoroughly enjoying the chance to participate in some team building games before tea. Later that evening the group took on the Nightline Challenge, where they had to lead each other through an obstacle course whilst blindfolded. They also had the chance to play French bingo and practise their French numbers up to 100.

Year 6 enjoyed a beautifully sunny day on Tuesday – perfect for messing about on the river! They had great fun trying out paddle boarding and canoeing. They also had the chance to test their team building skills when they were challenged to make a raft and sail it on the river. Back on dry land, there was an opportunity to tackle rock climbing. After donning their safety gear everyone had a good go at seeing how high they could climb. There was also time for bushcraft activities where the shelter building skills they had learnt back at St Edward’s, in Forest School, certainly came in handy.

On Wednesday, despite a little rain, as it was their “French” trip they started the day with a lesson of boules. This was followed up by some high ropes adventure when the group took on the challenge of Jacob’s Ladder and the Leap of Faith. They all showed a huge amount of courage throughout and we are really proud of how our Year 6 pupils helped and supported each other as they worked together to overcome nerves and just have a go! In the afternoon they tried their hand at archery, learning how to aim their arrows at the target. The day’s activities ended with an assault course, complete with smoke bombs and grenades – the staff accompanying the trip told us that they loved hearing our pupils shrieking with delight!

On Thursday, there were more opportunities for raft building, bushcraft, canoeing and paddle boarding, before the entire group headed out for an visit to the caves, where they saw pipistrelle bats!

On Friday, a tired, but happy year group made their way back to School at the end of what was an amazing, activity-filled week of adventure!
