Kodu is a 3D game development environment that is designed to teach children basic programming principles. Children in Year 4 have started to create their own games in Kodu, including building the terrain for their virtual world, populating it with characters and then programming their behaviours.

This project builds on skills that the children have learnt previously using resources on Code.org.

There are many benefits of learning coding at a young age, as it helps children to gain an advantage in thinking, processing, and communication skills. When children learn how to code, they take complex tasks and break them into smaller parts. This helps them to approach problems with the logical, computational thinking. Year 4 have now finished creating their first game, Apple Race’, and this week are starting work on their second game called ‘Shoot em!’.
