Year 6 were working on their measurement skills this week. The children looked at finding the area, which is the space inside the shape, and is found by multiplying the length by the width. They also looked at perimeter, which is the distance around the outside edges of a shape. They did this for both regular and irregular shapes during their maths lessons.
The pupils used a variety of equipment to measure items around school before heading back to the classroom to make their calculations.
Area and Perimeter are important parts of the curriculum for children in Year 6, but can be concepts that some children struggle to get their head around. Using practical ways of teaching can be a great way to get pupils engaged and enhance their understanding.
