As part of their current Science topic, Year 3 have been investigating the different rates at which rocks erode. Using our dedicated Science Lab, they conducted tests on a variety of substrates to observe the process. In the first of this 3-part lesson, the pupils rubbed samples of slate, granite, basalt, chalk, sandstone and pumice together to speed up a process which would normally take millions of years, if left to nature.

The pupils then used their results to discuss which type of rock would make good building material.

The class has also conducted experiments this week to compare the permeability and density of the different rocks.
