Our Languages Prefect, Venetia, has continued to run Italian Club this term. This week, she taught a group of very keen pupils how to play a popular Italian board game called ‘Gioco Dell’Oca’.

Gioco Dell’Oca translates as ‘Game of the Goose’ and is similar to our traditional game, ‘Snakes and Ladders’. During the game two or more players move pieces around a track by rolling a die. The aim of the game is to reach square number sixty-three before any of the other players, whilst avoiding obstacles such as the Inn, the Bridge and Death.

The Italian Club members chanted the numbers in Italian as they moved around the board and landed on illustrated spaces with names of objects in Italian.

Interesting conversations on lexical similarities between Italian, Spanish, Danish and French took place and pupils were also treated to some delicious biscuits as they took on the challenge of the game!
