Children at the Prep School were treated to an assembly led by one of our Year 3 classes on Monday, when they took over Mrs Thomas’ assembly to teach the pupils all about Chinese New Year.
3T burst into the Sports Hall together to create a ‘dragon’, taking the microphone from Mrs Thomas and proceeded to start their own assembly. Each pupil had prepared information about Chinese New Year, including an explanation about when and why it is celebrated and the significance of the Chinese Zodiac.
They talked about the 12 different animals that Chinese years are named after, presenting the story of the Chinese Zodiac by acting out the Jade Emperor’s idea for a race, with each pupil representing a different animal that was involved.
They also explained some other Chinese traditions and gave each child a fortune cookie on their way out.
The Chinese theme continued throughout the week with pupils having a go at Chinese brush painting in their art lessons.
