Rugby players from St Edward’s Senior & Sixth Form have been fortunate enough to take part in two specialist training sessions this week, one with rugby player Will Safe, and the other at new ‘The Huddle’ gym in Cheltenham.

On Wednesday, former Gloucester Rugby player, Will Safe, put our St Edward’s Excellence Programme & Scholarships (STEPS) students through their paces during a rugby masterclass on our top field. The action-packed session gave the players an opportunity to work on improving their passing and hands with some fun drills.

This followed on from a visit, made by our First XV players, to ‘The Huddle’ gym in Cheltenham on Monday.  The team had a session with trainer, Max Clementson, who combined his rugby and personal training knowledge to put the group to the test.

One of our players, Jonny F, felt the session was really awarding and enjoyed the competitive nature of the exercises. He said, “We took part in speed exercises that allowed the squad to compete against each other and finished with a tough superset of a 30 second plank and 30 seconds of work on a machine. We would like to thank Max for developing an enjoyable but tough workout in the Newlands facility for the team.”

By providing sessions like these for our STEPS students, allowing them to gain experience of training in different environments and receive specialist coaching in a range of sports, allows us to broaden our students’ knowledge and helps to increase their competitive skills.
