Despite a slight delay due to the downpours of rain at the beginning of last week, pupils and parents warmly welcomed Sports Day at St Edward’s Prep School on Thursday, where a plethora of new records were set in the sunshine.
Overall there were 25 new records set during the course of the day, with all but one of those coming from track events. Niamh started the record breaking bonanza winning the first race of the day and breaking the Year 4 Girls 600m record, taking almost five seconds off the time that stood from 2013.
The rest of the track record breakers were:
- Niamh and Noa – 600m
- Jack and Henriette – 300m
- Zara, Xavier and Rosie – 150m
- Rosie, Flynn, Henriette, Fran, Ollie, Leo and Sayako – 75m
- Jack, Arabella, Zara and Matteusz – 50m
The only new record made away from the track goes to Elsa, who broke the Long Jump record by two centimetres with a leap of 3.05m.
The remaining records were set in the relay, with six new records set in just 15 events!
Each House, Blyton, Dahl and Lewis, were competing for both the Relay Cup, awarded for the best accumulative score for the relay races, and the Sports Day Cup for the best overall score across all disciplines.
The Relay Cup was won this year by Dahl, who clawed themselves back to win it after Lewis had a firm grip on top of the scoreboards until late in the afternoon.
There was consolation for Lewis, however, as they stormed away to an overall win, lifting the Sports Day Cup for a second consecutive year. The winning House finished more 50 points ahead of Dahl, with Blyton coming in a very close third place.
It was a great day of glorious sunshine and friendly competition, with parents and pupils supporting all of the competitors for an enjoyable and memorable Sports Day.
