Children at St Edward’s Prep School were treated to a visit by Doug Hughes last week, Head of Global Packaging for Cadbury, where he was able to speak to our Year 2 and 3 pupils about chocolate, a topic they are covering extensively this term.

He spoke to the pupils about where Cadbury get their cacao beans from and their commitment to ensure that farmers are given a fair amount of money for what they produce. He also talked to the children about the chocolate making process, showing them cocoa powder, cocoa butter and cocoa liquor, but unfortunately would not divulge the secret ingredient that gives Cadbury chocolate its unique taste!

Mr Hughes then spoke about packaging and the need to follow the “three Ps” – Protect, Preserve and Promote. He demonstrated how the chocolate is packaged and ended his talk by speaking to the children about the importance of looking after the environment and assured the children that all Cadbury plastic is recyclable.

The children had lots of chocolate related questions and thoroughly enjoyed what Mr Hughes had to share with them.
