On Tuesday afternoon, 170 children from Year 3 up to Year 6, participated in the Prep School’s Spring Concert, held at Pittville Pump Room.
The children presented an incredible 26 pieces throughout the afternoon, with the preparation and hard work of the pupils reflected in their great performances.
Year 5 opened the concert with a charming rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love”, followed by our Year 4 classes showcasing what they have learnt this term on the violin. There were then a number of solo performances before the Year 3 Choir came on stage to sing “Make your Spirit Fly”.
There was a selection of impressive piano playing to enjoy, with seven pupils from Years 5 and 6 playing pieces including Mozart’s “Sonata in A Minor”, C.H Wilton’s “Little Sonata” and a very impressive piano duet from two of our pupils (one in Year 5 and one in Year 6) who played perfectly in sync with one another.
The huge range of musical opportunity at St Edward’s was on show, from guitar and drums to cello and clarinet, many musical genres were covered with pupils playing a whole range of musical instruments.
Our afternoon of entertainment concluded with performances from three of our choirs. First, the Year 6 Choir sang The Jackson 5’s “I’ll Be There”, then the Prep Choir sang The Beatles’ “Blackbird” and finally our Boys Choir performed a powerful rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good”.
We are extremely proud and grateful to have such hard-working, musically talented children, making the most of the many opportunities at St Edward’s to improve their musical ability and excel on their chosen instruments.
