A group of students from Shukutoku Sugamo High School in Tokyo visited St Edward’s Senior & Sixth Form today, spending time with pupils in Year 7 and Year 10. The day was part of a busy programme in place for our Japanese visitors whilst they are in the UK, providing them with an opportunity to experience life in an English school.
Upon arrival the students were given a tour of the school, following which Year 10 students welcomed the High School pupils into Maths and Chemistry lessons, where they worked together in groups on some electrolysis experiments.
This was followed by a “Cultural Show” in our Performance Hall where our own Year 7s were treated to a hugely insightful presentation about Japanese culture and what life is like there. This included an upbeat and feel-good baton-twirling display and karate demonstration.
In the afternoon, our visitors were based in our Design & Technology kitchens where they learnt how to make scones in order to enjoy a quintessential English afternoon cream tea.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable and educational experience for all involved. We are most grateful to the staff and students of Shukutoku Sugamo High School for taking time out of their very busy schedule to spend time with us, sharing their culture and values.
