Year 4 pupils put their musical skills to the test in Science this week as they began to explore the topic of “sound” through a noisy experiment! The aim of the experiment was to investigate how a range of musical instruments produce their sound.

The pupils worked in pairs playing instruments including a glockenspiel, ukulele, recorder, cymbals and maracas. When making the sounds they were challenged to note how the sound was made and then describe it using a range of adjectives.

The session proved to be an interesting and enjoyable introduction to their new topic of study, and the groups are really looking forward to exploring “sound” in more depth and building their knowledge in the weeks to come.
