Spiritual Life

Founded on the principles of Catholic education, St.Edward's aims to put the Christian faith at the centre of school life. Prayer and worship are an integral part of the school. Our small but beautiful chapel is always available to everyone.

The whole school meets twice a week in our Main Hall for Assembly with prayers, a hymn, and a thought for the day. On the other days there are Year assemblies or Form Tutor time which includes prayers, often led by the pupils.

Each Term there are whole-school liturgical celebrations such as St.Edward's Day in October, Advent, Ash Wednesday and Passiontide liturgies, enriched with a high standard of music. Parents are always invited to these. We have a programme of 'away days', including a visit to Belmont Abbey and a walking pilgrimage to Tewkesbury Abbey.

We have a full-time chaplain, Fr.Basil Postlethwaite. Chapel services this term are as follows:

Monday [at Junior School]
Tuesday 8.00am Mass
Wednesday [at Junior School]
Thursday 8.00am Morning Prayer
1.20pm Mass
Friday 8.00am Mass

Our Religious Education is not just another academic subject but is aimed to help bring our pupils to knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. Our pastoral and disciplinary approach is based on firm Christian principles of right and wrong and compassionate guidance for our students to grow up as moral people. Developing the students' awareness of the needs of others is a very important part of the education we offer, and fund-raising activities raise around £5,000 each year for various charities.

Parents are warmly invited to join the staff and parents' prayer group which meets several times a term.
