Development
This summer has seen a major building development with the opening of the Abbott Building, a two-storey block containing a new Refectory on the upper floor. This seats twice as many students as our former Refectory, and the big new kitchens can produce a greater variety of home-cooked food. With its south wall of glass, the new Refectory is superbly light and spacious and has a wonderful view over our main lawn. The ground floor houses a state of the art Drama Studio and two Geography classrooms. This whole project was completed early and under budget.
We have also re-developed the old buildings freed up by the Abbott Building. The former Drama studio has been completely gutted, re-roofed, re-windowed and internally re-structured to create a new facility for our expanding Sixth Form. It now houses a Careers Centre and study area, which includes a ‘Café Six’ run by our caterers, Sodexo, together with a new Sixth Form teaching room for smaller A-level groups.
The former Refectory has been divided into three new Art studios, including a dedicated Photography room. In other areas of the school freed up as a knock-on effect of these developments, we have created a permanent CCF headquarters and additional Music teaching rooms.
