Science
All pupils study a General Science course in Years 7 and 8. The three separate sciences - Biology, Chemistry and Physics (click to link to their specialist pages) - are taught from Year 9 onwards, leading to the GCSE courses. We provide the three separate GCSE sciences and strongly recommend that pupils study these if they are considering going on to take Science at A Level. Alternatively, pupils can opt for the 'combined' course in which all three sciences are studied but which gives two GCSEs: 'Science' and 'Additional Science'.
Science is so popular at St.Edward's that we have recently added an extra Physics laboratory and expanded the teaching staff. A programme of refurbishment in recent years means that the school now has seven
dedicated science laboraties, all equipped to a high standard.
An after-school Science Club is popular with Year 8 pupils. A Year 9 grroup are doing an additonal GCSE in Environmental Science off-timetable. This particularly appeals to our Gifted & Talented pupils.
