Drama

Drama moves into an exciting new era at the school this year with the opening of our big new Drama Studio. This state of the art facility is equipped with two full lighting rigs so it can either be used as a whole acting area or be divided into two smaller ones. The whole space is big enough to be used as a Studio Theatre for some of our school productions.

Drama is both an academic subject and a major extra-curricular activity. All pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 have one lesson of Drama a week. During these they develop the skills of working together, exercising imagination and planning presentations. Pupils develop their communication skills and confidence through lessons which are both highly disciplined and fun at the same time.

These lessons are also vital in providing the basic experience and opportunities for those who wish to take part in the school drama productions (click to read more about them), or perhaps want to pursue the subject at a further level.

After Year 9, pupils can opt for Drama as one of their GCSEs. There is always a healthy uptake for this GCSE which provides opportunities both to act and to work behind the scenes. In the Sixth Form Drama is available as an A-level which has both performance and more academic elements. The department has prided itself on the consistently high level of its results. Drama is taught by specialist teachers: Mr.Jerry Strachan, the Head of Department, and Mrs Catherine Pozzi who also teaches English.
