Design & Technology

We provide a broad and balanced Design & Technology curriculum in order that our pupils can better understand how the environment in which they live and the products they use are designed and made. We aim to stimulate a lasting interest in problem-solving and technological activities.

There is a large, well-equipped main workshop, a second light workshop, a textiles and dedicated computer room and a superb food room with excellent cooking facilities. Specialist technicians assist the Technology teachers and students.

In Years 7, 8 and 9 the course includes Resistant Materials, Textiles and Food. In Years 10 and 11 we offer two separate GCSEs: Design & Technology and Food Technology. Design & Technology is also available at A-level, and the School offers Textiles as an option through Art A-level.

Technology Club runs after school and at lunch times, where students can carry on their work or pursue their own projects. Continental Cooking club and Greenpower Car Club are also very popular. The Department runs an Annual Technology Day for visiting pupils from local junior schools, sponsored by Messier Dowty.

The department runs trips to The Jaguar factory, BMW Mini and Morgan Cars to enhance delivery of the A level Course.
