Design & Technology

We provide a broad and balanced Design & Technology curriculum in order that our pupils can better understand how the environment in which they live, work and play, and the products they use and consume, are designed and made.

We strive to stimulate a lasting interest in learning through problem-solving and technological activities. We help develop students' imagination, sensitivity and creative responses to a wide range of experiences.

There is a large, well-equipped workshop, a second light workshop, a textiles and general teaching room and a superb food room with excellent cooking facilities. Specialist technicians assist the Technology teachers and students.

In Years 7, 8 and 9 the course includes Resistant Materials, Textiles and Food. In Years 10 and 11 we offer two separate GCSEs: Design & Technology and Food Technology. Both subjects are also available at A-level.

Technology Club runs after school where students can carry on their work or pursue their own projects, and Continental Cooking club is also popular. The Department runs an Annual Technology Day for visiting pupils from local junior schools, sponsored by Messier Dowty.
