School History
St Edward’s Junior School occupies the site that was Whitefriars School (Carmelite Boys’ Grammar School) from 1959 – 1987. In 1987 Whitefriars and the nearby Catholic Convent School, Charlton Park merged to create St Edward’s. In 1995 St Edward’s Junior School took over the site of the original boys’ school and St Edward’s Senior School occupied the Girls’ School about ½ mile away. In 1999 the two Schools were reorganised with separate Heads and separate DFES numbers although they continued to be governed by a joint Board of Trustees and Governors. In 2007 the Board of Trustees merged with the Board of Governors. The school remains a Roman Catholic Foundation. The present Head has been in post since 2011 and is the current holder of the award; Distinction for Headteacher of the Year in a Primary School. He is a member of ISA (Independent Schools’ Association) and IAPS (Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools.
