Kindergarten
The Kindergarten is situated in a purpose-built setting, in the school grounds. The building is bright and spacious with an inviting atmosphere. It offers a dedicated baby unit, a nursery room, and two pre-school classes. The children play in a secure, recently refurbished playground, with a separate area for the younger children. The children in Kindergarten benefit from regular “welly walks”, experiencing the school's 40 acres of beautiful parkland.
All Kindergarten staff are fully qualified and experienced, and led by a Kindergarten Manager and Assistant Manager. The children follow the Birth to Three Matters Framework and Foundation Stage Curriculum. The Kindergarten was inspected in 2004 and received a glowing report.
“St. Edward’s Junior School provides high quality nursery education for children. Children are making very good progress in all six areas of learning”.
Partnership between parents and Kindergarten is of paramount importance. The Kindergarten staff communicate on a daily basis with parents, and parents are encouraged to work closely with the Kindergarten staff to achieve the early learning goals. The Kindergarten runs Mummies’, Daddies’ and Grandparents’ days, giving parents and grandparents the opportunity to experience the working Kindergarten environment.
The vast majority of children in the Kindergarten make the move to the Reception class of the Infant Department of St. Edward’s Junior School. There are very close links between the Kindergarten and Infant Department, so that the transition for children is smooth and enjoyable.
The Kindergarten also offers extra curricular activities such as ballet and Monkey Music.
