PSHE at St Edward’s Preparatory School promotes:

  • Integrity
  • Honesty
  • Respect
  • Service
  • Responsibility
  • Perseverance

St Edward’s recognises that all of our children are precious. Personal, social, health economic and emotional development underpin learning and development in all areas of life and across the whole curriculum.

PSHE forms an integral component of the way the School mission statement is realised. At St Edward’s Preparatory School we are committed to promoting a positive sense of self for all children in our care.

We provide our children with opportunities to develop enquiring minds in an atmosphere where questions are valued. We stress the importance of parents, family and the wider community.

Through the strong pastoral care of our pupils we support our pupils and to enable them to:

  • Develop a strong sense of self-esteem and independence
  • Feel secure within their families
  • Play a positive role in contributing to the life of the school and the wider community
  • Understand and express their emotions
  • Understand the feelings of others and to empathise with them appropriately
  • Develop their sense of self-worth and responsibility
  • Negotiate and compromise
  • Become increasingly independent in meeting their personal needs
  • Acknowledge their own successes and disappointments and those of others
  • Respecting and valuing our beliefs and culture and those of others
  • Reflect on their differences and understand we are free to have different opinions
  • Appreciate the world around us and our place in it and care for their environment
  • Understand what it means to be a positive member of a diverse multicultural society.

By giving pupils roles or responsibility such as classroom monitors, playground friends, captains of sports teams, Pupil Chaplains, House Captains, Ambassadors, Charity Ambassadors and Pupil Council Representatives, the pupils have an ownership stake in the value system of the school.
