We have three groups for our Kindergarten children:
Little Acorns and Little Oaks (12-18 months) where we help develop a natural curiosity by providing a wide range of sensory experiences.
Nursery (2-3 years) where we construct the child’s knowledge through a carefully planned curriculum built upon the child’s interest, this way we can develop a lifelong passion for learning.
Pre-School (3-4 years) where we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and integrate the IPC (International Primary Curriculum) to further develop broad and balanced learning. Our outdoor areas provide a wonderful environment for child-initiated play. St Edward’s also offers inclusive specialist lessons:-in Music, PE, French and Computing.
We have three groups in the Pre-Prep Department:
Reception where the Early Years Foundation Stage is combined with the INternational Primary Curriculum (IPC) to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, ensuring children feel secure, nurtured and valued.
Year One is designed to progress smoothly from the Foundation Stage. It extends the children academically whilst ensuring breadth and balance in the activities on offer. They are encouraged to make their own decisions and to work independently. The children study a range of topics, which are linked to the National Curriculum.
Year Two follows a curriculum, which extends beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum to provide an exciting and interesting year. They are encouraged to do personal research for topics, using both books and computer resources.
The Prep Department consists of Year 3 to Year 6. Currently there are two classes for Years 3, 4 and 5 and three classes for Year 6. The children are set into ability groups for Maths in Year 4, and ability sets for Maths, English and Science in Years 5 and 6.
The children receive specialist teaching in the following subjects:
The above specialist subjects are taught in dedicated classrooms/labs.
