The Board of Trustees has overall responsibility for the governance of both the Preparatory and Senior Schools. Trustees take an active part in the daily life of the Schools; they attend school functions, staff briefings, open mornings and chair numerous committees which cover the following areas - Education, Safeguarding, Finance, Ethos, Land & Premises and Health & Safety, in addition to their statutory duties as Board members.
The Trustee's contribution to both supporting the teaching and learning function and to financial/HR/resource management is essential, and we therefore aim to appoint Trustees from a wide variety of backgrounds and professional areas. When recruiting our Trustees we try to ensure a wide field of expertise: educationalists; HR specialists; experts in the law, marketing and finance, professional medical personnel and Architects. Some of the Members are, or have been, parents of children at the Schools, and some are now grandparents of current pupils. Some Trustees live in the Cheltenham area, and their local expertise is invaluable, whilst others travel many miles to attend meetings and other events. Whatever their background, the Trustees are all keen to use their talents and time to support children and staff in their learning and development, and to continue to uphold the values and ethos which underpin life at St Edward’s.
